FIRST LOOK: TWR Supercat – Wild 650bhp V12-Engined Jaguar XJS
Welcome to the wild new TWR Supercat.
It’s a restomod, but rather than a universally loved starting point, this limited-edition ‘super-GT’ is built from the bones of a car that was a) maligned on release, b) beset with reliability issues, and c) quite ugly. Perfect for a makeover, then.
The Supercat has been spun off the Jaguar XJS, a car TWR (but likely few others) holds dear to its heart, thanks to a smattering of race wins. Count ‘em: TWR won the European Touring Car Championship, Spa 24hrs and Bathurst in 1984 in the big Jag.
TWR today isn’t TWR from back in the day, mind. Now it’s a new company, albeit one run by Fergus Walkinshaw, son of original TWR founder Tom Walkinshaw.
Anyway, the Supercat… there’s a mad new carbon body, a new interior, new chassis, plus a bored and supercharged 5.6-litre V12 good for around 650bhp.
Over to both Ollie Kew and Ollie Marriage, for the full story…

Bugatti Mistral! 282mph… With No Roof
There has never been an open-top version of the Chiron, as there was with the Veyron. But we’re not sad, because rather than merely cutting a hole in the roof to make one, Bugatti has instead given us this: the W16 Mistral.
The jaw-dropping exterior is bespoke, just 99 will be made, and the price for admission is £5m. Production starts right about now, and every single one was sold out before it was revealed to the public back in 2022.
It’s also the last-ever road-going Bugatti to use a W16 engine, before we move on to the V16-powered Tourbillon. And in this case, the quad-turbo, 8.0-litre, W16 engine goes out on a high, in the same 1600hp guise as used in the record-breaking 304mph Chiron Super Sport 300+.
Speaking of which… when the roofless Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse hit 254mph in 2013, it did it with a mere 1200hp. With over a decade of engineering advancements behind it, including an extra 400hp, how fast might the W16 Mistral go?
To find out, Top Gear joined Bugatti at the Papenburg proving ground in Germany, and snuck in a little go of our own. Over to Deputy Editor Ollie Kew…

Range Rover Sport SV vs Audi RS6 GT: Track Battle
Practicality and performance don’t often go together, but we all get a little excited when they do. Case in point: the optional back seats in the new Porsche 911 GT3 Touring.
That’s one end of the scale though – a performance car with a sop to being sensible.
At the other end of the scale (literally and figuratively) are properly practical cars that have had the wick turned up considerably. Like these two: the Range Rover Sport SV and the Audi RS6 GT.
The former is the fastest version of Range Rover’s sportiest SUV, a follow-up to the outrageous previous-generation Sport SVR. The latter is a run-out version of Audi’s über go-faster estate, complete bespoke bodywork and manually adjustable coilover suspension. Each costs over £170,000.
But are these proper performance cars, or just jack-of-all-trades machines that don’t quite hit the mark?
Over to Top Gear Magazine’s Deputy Editor, Ollie Kew, to find out. With a little ‘help’ from The Stig…

FIRST LOOK: McLaren W1 – Inside Story on 1275hp P1 Successor!
The P1 hypercar transformed McLaren Automotive from fledgling upstart into full-blown Ferrari and Porsche rival. From there it went on a roll, subsequently giving us the 675LT and then the 720S, two vehicles that remain supercar benchmarks.
Now, there’s a follow-up to the P1. A true successor when other halo McLarens since – like the Senna, Elva and Speedtail – have been in a different vein.
It’s called the W1, that latter number signifying a legacy to the P1, and further back to the iconic F1. Big shoes to fill then…
And yet, at a glance, the W1 doesn’t seem that different from the P1. At a time when Ferrari has halved the number of cylinders and doubled the number of driven wheels in the new LaFerrari-succeeding F80, the W1 is still powered by a hybrid twin-turbo V8 with power going to the rear only.
But, that does mean the W1 has more engine capacity and cylinders (in the guise of an all-new 4.0-litre V8) than the Italian, and the front wheels remain uncorrupted. It’s 75hp up on the Ferrari, too…
So, is updating the P1 formula a route to success, or should McLaren have mixed up the recipe a little more? We took a deep dive with the W1, inside McLaren HQ, to find out. Over to Top Gear Magazine’s Head of Car Testing, Ollie Marriage, to find out…
