Behind the Counter at the Most Popular Japanese Countryside Ramen Shop

Today I’m going behind the counter in Japan at Omori Ramen, a family run ramen shop tucked away near the mountains of Niigata, an area known across Japan as snow country. Founded in 1951, this Japanese restaurant helped pioneer tonkotsu pork bone shoyu ramen in the Joetsu Myoko region, and even after generations, there is still a line out the door nearly every day. This Japan food documentary follows Sayaka san, the third generation granddaughter of the founder. Her mother carried on the business after her grandfather, and now she is continuing the family’s legacy while preserving one of Niigata’s most loved bowls of Japanese ramen. The shop simmers pork bones and back fat for at least sixteen hours, carefully drawing out deep umami while skimming impurities to create a broth that is rich yet surprisingly light. Their noodles are also made in house at the family noodle factory, where Sayaka san began helping when she was only fifteen years old. At a time when tonkotsu ramen was uncommon in the area, her grandfather slowly built a loyal following through dedication and experimentation. Today, Omori Ramen’s influence can still be seen across the region, with other local ramen shops adopting their style of broth and shoyu tare.

Day in the Life of a Japanese Garbageman
This is a day in the life in Japan, following a Japanese worker in Chigasaki as he helps keep the city clean as a Japanese Garbage Collector. If you are curious about Japan work culture, life in Japan, or how Japanese cities stay so clean, this Japan documentary gives you a behind the scenes look at waste management in Japan. Ginjiro works at the Chigasaki City Government Environmental Operation Center, where over 120 workers handle garbage collection across the city. Like many jobs working in Japan, safety and precision are critical. Each day begins with a full truck inspection, as garbage collection is done in pairs. Navigating narrow Tokyo style streets with cars, bikes, and pedestrians requires a high level of skill and constant awareness. In Japan, cleanliness starts with the community. Residents maintain collection areas, and the cleaner the space, the more likely people follow proper disposal rules. This reflects a deeper part of Japan's culture and daily life, where responsibility for shared spaces is taught from a young age. Even after long shifts, workers wash their trucks, which is why garbage trucks in Japan always look clean. This attention to detail is part of what defines Japanese culture and what makes Japan feel so safe and organized.

Japan Eliminates Illegal Immigrants
Get your Sakuraco snack box: https://team.sakura.co/paolo-SC2604 Use code “PAOLO” for $5 off your first box, or subscribe to a multi-month plan to receive exclusive gifts from Japan. Experience Japan from the comfort of your home!
Japan is often known for its culture, safety, and high trust society, but behind the scenes, it also has one of the strictest immigration systems in the world. If you are interested in Japan, Japan travel, or understanding life in Japan beyond tourism, this topic reveals another side of the country. In this video, I break down how Japan is working toward its Zero Plan, an effort to eliminate illegal immigration and overstayers. With about 68,000 undocumented residents compared to millions in countries like the US, Japan is already strict, but new policies aim to go even further. From random ID checks and tip reward systems to advanced tracking databases and detention centers, Japan’s immigration enforcement is deeply integrated into daily life. Foreign residents are required to carry identification at all times, and government systems track visas, taxes, and residency in real time. This raises bigger questions about Japan work culture, national identity, and what makes Japan what it is today. Would Japan still feel the same with more open immigration, or is this system part of what preserves its unique society?

What Japan's Most Insane Baseball Stadium on Game Day is like
Get 10% off with my link on Squarespace - https://squarespace.com/paolofromtokyo
Japan is known for taking things to another level, and this might be the most insane example yet. I traveled from Tokyo to Hokkaido to visit Es Con Field, home of the Nippon Ham Fighters, and easily one of the most advanced baseball stadiums in Japan. If you are into Japan travel, Tokyo travel, or planning a Japan guide, this is one of the most unique things to do in Japan. This stadium is more than just baseball. It has a built in onsen, sauna, hotel rooms overlooking the field, seats for dogs, a batting simulator, over 50 restaurants, and even a massive playground. It feels less like a stadium and more like a full entertainment theme park built around Japanese baseball culture. After a two hour flight from Tokyo and another hour by train, I finally made it. The goal was simple. Do as much as possible before the game ended, get a piece of the field, and somehow make it onto the massive Jumbotron. From exploring every level to trying Tokyo style stadium food, this Japan travel food experience turned into one of the wildest days I have had. This is what baseball in Japan looks like when it goes all out.
