Staying at $650 Tokyo DisneySea Fantasy Springs vs $65 Hotel Springs
Ring in the New Year with a taste of Japan! Sign up for the Sakuraco https://team.sakura.co/paolo-SC2512 multi-month plans to receive an exclusive New Year gift, or use code “PAOLO” to save $5 on your first order. Step into the New Year with a box full of Japanese delights—perfect to give or keep!
Disneyland is often called the happiest place on earth, and it definitely makes my family happy no matter how many times we visit. But does it actually make me happier? We managed to secure a rare reservation at the Tokyo DisneySea Fantasy Springs Hotel, a stay that costs around ¥100,000 or $650 per night and is almost impossible to book. My wife says it is supposed to be magical, so I wanted to see if it really lives up to the hype. To find out, I decided to compare it with a much cheaper option just 20 minutes away called Hotel Springs. The names are almost identical, but the prices are not. One costs ten times more than the other. My goal is simple. I rate both hotels based on how happy they make me feel, including the lobby, room, amenities, views, and overall experience. The Fantasy Springs Hotel is built directly inside Tokyo DisneySea, connected to the park and located in the newest Fantasy Springs area. Being able to enter the park easily and start the day close to the rides definitely adds to the experience. The question is whether that convenience and atmosphere are really worth the price compared to a basic, affordable hotel nearby.

I Tried Japan's Weirdest Gadgets
Get 10% off with my link on Squarespace - https://squarespace.com/paolofromtokyo
Japan is known for inventions that completely changed everyday life, from instant ramen and karaoke machines to washlet toilets. Innovations like these made me wonder if Japanese creativity is just built differently, like they cannot help but invent things the rest of the world never thought of.
That curiosity led me to a store called THANKO in Akihabara, one of Tokyo’s most famous tech and electronics districts. It is packed wall to wall with gadgets that are strange, clever, and surprisingly practical. Some feel unnecessary, some feel genius, and some fall somewhere in between. I love this kind of stuff, so I grabbed a few of their products to test them out for myself.
The goal is simple. I want to find THANKO’s weirdest and most interesting gadgets, try them in real life, and rate each one on a scale from one to five stars based on usefulness, creativity, and overall fun.
From bizarre desk gadgets to problem solving inventions you never knew existed, this is a deep dive into Japan’s love for clever design and unconventional thinking.
Correction: Portable Dryer is ¥14,800 / $95

What a Day with a Japanese Trucker is like
Use my Migaku link https://www.migaku.com/paolofromtokyo and get 50% Off the Migaku Lifetime Plan or an additional free month on the Standard and Early Access subscription plans.
I spent a day on the road with a Japanese truck driver to experience the world of Dekotora, short for Decoration Truck. These flashy big rigs, covered in neon lights and bold artwork, exploded in popularity during the 70s and 80s and became even more famous through the Truck Yaro film series. The plan for this trip was simple. Drive south, make a few stops to refuel and rest, and end the day in Toyama where we would spend the night inside the truck. Early the next morning, we would continue toward Noto, an eighteen hour journey in total.
Kazuya, the driver I am riding with, is a member of Utamaro kai, a nationwide Dekotora group with chapters all over Japan and his own based in Iwate. Along the way, we planned to meet other chapters heading to the same destination. Together, they would volunteer and serve hot meals to the people in Noto who were recently affected by a major earthquake.
Every Dekotora truck is one of a kind, built from the trucker’s imagination. Parts are custom made and artwork is painted by specialists. Owners believe no design is ever complete, that each truck is always evolving. Many buy older models for their nostalgic feel and maintain them for decades, keeping the golden era of Dekotora alive.

Behind the Counter at a Japanese Bakery with 80-Year-Old Grandmas
Celebrate the holidays with a taste of Japan! Sign up for the Sakuraco prepaid plan at https://team.sakura.co/paolo-SC2511 to receive an exclusive holiday gift, or use code "PAOLO” to save $5 on your first order. Treat yourself or someone special to the perfect Japanese holiday delight!
This is Mochiyori PAN Samba, a small bakery in Oshiage near the Tokyo Skytree that creates its own Japanese deli style baked bread. What makes it special is that it is helped run by three 80 year old grandmas who are at the heart of the shop.
Akiko san opened the bakery three years ago after dreaming about it for a long time. She named it Samba, with sam meaning three and ba meaning grandmas, as a way to honor the women who support her every day. Her love for baking started with a single bagel gifted from a friend. It was so good that she enrolled in a baking class at that same shop while still working at an interior construction company. One lesson led to another, and she spent the next decade studying different techniques and styles, slowly building the skills that shaped her craft.
The bakery also grew from a family need. When her family considered selling the building, her aunt would have had to move away. Akiko realized she could renovate part of the space into a home for her aunt and turn the rest into a bakery. It allowed her aunt to stay in the neighborhood she loves while giving Akiko a chance to pursue her dream and support her family at the same time.
