対戦ブームの波が押し寄せる中で前作に通信の要素が追加されたマイナーチェンジ版。それまでにも「ファイナルラップ」「スズカ8アワーズ」等で通信レースゲームの分野が確立されてきており、今作からこのシリーズも対戦可能の看板を掲げるようになった。対戦ができるようになったことからブロックの必要性が生じ、画面上部にはバックミラーが取り付けられるようになった。また、対戦者同士で後ろの車が速くなるシステム（ファイナルラップ現象）が他の対戦レースゲーム同様に取り入れられている。全体的なシステムは前作を引き継ぎ、コースも同じ物を使用してはいるものの、車が前作よりも若干滑りやすくなっており、ドリフトを楽しめる内容となっている。ゲーム中の音声、BGMが大幅に強化され、グラフィックも前作以上に美しく描かれている。
